6-28-99 Los Angeles City Attorney Jim Hahn announced today that he will use the City Attorney's Office Internet website to provide information to the public on implementation of the new City Charter and facilitate public input in the process.
"Computer technology will enable us to make this the most public drafting of municipal and administrative codes in city history," Hahn said. "The public voted overwhelmingly in favor of City Charter reform and they should have the unfettered opportunity for complete participation in the debate and process of implementing it."
The public will have direct access to all documents generated by Hahn's office for the implementation process and also have the ability to comment on specific documents or the implementation process in general through an e-mail system linked to the website. Hahn said he will post all draft ordinances on the website simultaneously with their delivery to the City Council.
The Internet address for the City Attorney's website is www.cityofla.org/ATTY. To reach the charter ordinance website, click on "Charter Alert" to enter the site that is devoted to City Charter implementation. Users will find Hahn's implementation plan and nine-month timetable being announced today, and the first proposed ordinance --scheduled to be considered by the City Council on July 9 --which would create a new city Department of Neighborhood Empowerment.
Users also may click on "mailing list" if they want to receive e-mail notification when new ordinances are submitted to the City Council and posted on the Charter Alert site You may send e-mail messages commenting on the implementation process by clicking on "comments" in the Charter Alert site and you can send e-mail messages directly to Hahn at cainfo@ATTY.ci.la.ca.us. In addition to taking comments into consideration in regard to the work being done by his office, Hahn also will forward all comments to the affected city departments and the City Council for consideration.
