Valley VOTE is a diverse, Valley-wide coalition of San Fernando Valley residents, educators, business leaders, community activists and organizations who support a LAFCO study (Los Angeles County Local Agency Formation Commission) on the issue of creating an independent Valley City.

MEDIA ALERT - 8-3-01

The Board of Directors of Valley VOTE recognizes and appreciates the personal sacrifices that Jeff Brain has made on behalf of the Valley Cityhood effort. Over the past five years Jeff Brain has made a tremendous commitment to advance the cause of Valley Independence with very little compensation in return.

We recognize that he could have earned significantly more money had he not continually made the sacrifices necessary to fulfill his responsibilities as President of Valley VOTE.

Mr. Brain met and became involved with an individual who happened to live in Glendale. Members of Valley VOTE were aware of his temporary move. Jeff Brain has lived in the Valley for over 25 years and he has been looking for a home back in the Valley for the past several months. If living in the City boundaries is a criteria for caring about the Valley or City, then how many City of Los Angeles general managers and city employees who don’t live in the City would the city loose?

At its heart, this is clearly an effort by the opponents of cityhood to change the subject.

The issue of Cityhood is not about any one individual. It’s about building a better quality of life for Los Angeles residents, safer neighborhoods, cleaner streets and parks, more efficient government and giving residents control over their own destiny. We need to be talking about the children who don’t have clean parks to play in, the senior citizens who are afraid to leave their own homes because of crime, and a city that has grown so large that everyday citizens have no voice.

Valley VOTE has full, complete, and unshaken confidence in Jeff Brain.
