While we believe these meeting should have been opened to the public, out of respect for the institutions who invited us, Valley VOTE and those religious leaders representing the Valley are delighted with the interest that Cardinal Mahoney and the Council of Religious leaders have shown in the moral and ethical questions surrounding reorganizing Los Angeles into two smaller cities, a new Valley City and a new smaller more manageable City of Los Angeles.

We look forward to a long cooperative relationship with the Council of Religious leaders. We believe that their participation can do nothing but demonstrate that this process will not have negative moral or ethical implications and it will have a positive impact on the quality of lives for all residents of Los Angeles, particularly the poor.

Valley VOTE believes in the capacity of an open and informed democratic process to create city governments that are more responsive particularly to those who are presently disenfranchised.
